Medical Device Prototyping

At mb prototyping Ltd., we guide researchers and early-stage medical device developers through the entire process — from the first sketch to a working prototype and, when you are ready, into small-series production. We handle the engineering and manufacturing so you can stay focused on your science.

What We Do

We take your idea through every step of the product development process:

CAD Design

If you have a concept but no 3D model, we create one for you in SolidWorks. We translate your ideas, sketches, drawings, or physical reference into a precise CAD file — and we iterate with you until the geometry is right before anything is manufactured.

Rapid Prototyping

We produce prototype parts using state-of-the-art 3D printing, CNC machining, and silicone casting — or a combination of all three, depending on your part's requirements. For a medical device, this typically means a first physical prototype in your hands within one to two weeks.

Silicone Manufacturing

Many medical device components — gaskets, seals, soft grips, skin-contact parts, and microfluidic elements — require silicone or PDMS. We specialise in short-run silicone manufacturing using biocompatible, platinum-cure materials sourced from North American and European suppliers. We produce custom molds and cast components in-house, with no minimum order quantity.

CNC Machining

For components requiring tight tolerances or materials like PTFE, aluminium, or engineering plastics, we machine parts in-house on our 3-axis CNC. This is particularly relevant for housings, fixtures, and test jigs.

Serial Production

When your prototype is validated and you are ready to scale, we connect you with our network of manufacturing partners for larger production runs. We manage the transition so your design and material specifications are handed over correctly — and we stay involved to make sure the production parts match what you tested.

Our Process

You do not need to know anything about manufacturing to work with us. Our process is designed to be accessible to researchers and scientists who are new to product development.

Tell us about your idea

A brief description, a sketch, or a rough drawing is enough to get started. We will ask the right questions to understand what your product needs to do, what it will be exposed to, and who will use it.

We design it

We create a SolidWorks 3D model and share it with you for review. We explain every design decision in plain language and adjust based on your feedback. No engineering background required on your side.

We build the first prototype

Using the most appropriate method for your part, we produce a first prototype and share photos and dimensions before shipping.

We iterate together

Most products go through several design iterations before the geometry and functionality is finalised. This is normal and expected. We turn around each iteration quickly so your development timeline stays on track.

We help you scale

Once your prototype is validated, we help you plan the path to production — whether that is a small series of 10 to 500 pieces with us, or a larger run with one of our manufacturing partners.
